Restorative Dental Work

Restorative dental care is a branch of dentistry focused on diagnosing, treating, and repairing damaged or missing teeth and their supporting structures. The primary goal of restorative dental care is to restore the function, aesthetics, and overall health of a patient’s oral cavity. This field plays a crucial role in improving oral health and enhancing a person’s quality of life.

Restorative dental care encompasses a wide range of procedures, each tailored to address specific dental issues. Some of the most common restorative treatments are included below.

In summary, restorative dental care is a vital aspect of dentistry that focuses on repairing and restoring damaged or missing teeth to improve oral health and overall well-being. Our dentists work closely with patients to create individualized treatment plans that address their specific needs and concerns.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a single appliance that spans the gap over a missing tooth to attach to stable teeth on either side. Most often, a bridge attaches to two teeth on each side of the space where a tooth is missing. Unlike dentures, a fixed bridge is never removed. A bridge is cemented in your mouth to provide a stable restoration very similar to natural teeth. Because a dental bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth, it prevents the movement of other teeth, making it an excellent permanent solution. A bridge may also provide increased chewing ability and save you from jaw joint problems that missing teeth often lead to. All this proactive treatment adds up to saving money that might otherwise be spent on future, more costly dental treatment, like extractions and implants.

A bridge may be right for you if you have a missing tooth or teeth and desire a more fixed solution than dentures.

Crowns

Dental Crowns are most often used to protect and save badly decayed or fractured teeth.

Crowns (also called a “cap”) are incredibly strong restorations that cover the tooth and restore it to its original function.  Crowns also protect and strengthen the remaining tooth structure. Our expert team will design a crown to perfectly fit onto the prepared surface of the tooth.

Common reasons for a dental crown:

If a tooth is badly decayed.

If a tooth is fractured.

To protect and strengthen weakened teeth.

Not every fractured or decayed tooth can be crowned. Crowns should be placed before the tooth is so cracked or decayed that
it may fracture beyond repair. Crowns can often help prevent the expense of root canal therapy in the future.

Composite Filling

A tooth-colored filling, also called a composite filling, is a restoration used to repair minor to moderate tooth decay or other forms of damage. These types of fillings are so called because they are white in color and match your natural tooth shade. This results in a restoration that is natural looking and aesthetic. Our tooth-colored fillings are beneficial for several reasons:

Tooth-colored fillings seamlessly blend into the tooth to provide a natural-looking smile.

Because these fillings are created to be less rigid than traditional dental fillings, they help prevent further decay and
cracking — an unfortunate side effect of metal fillings.

Tooth-colored dental fillings protect the tooth from excessive temperature changes.

Root Canals

You may wonder if dental X-rays are necessary and if they can benefit your health.  Dental X-rays, known as radiographs, are a crucial part of your dental exams.

By using digital dental X-rays, Dr. Johnson can see things about your oral health and tooth structure that are impossible to be seen by the naked eye.

These items include infections, cysts (sacks of fluid that form on the roots of teeth), cancerous tumors, invisible decay between teeth, and the location of teeth that haven’t grown all the way in. In some cases, where dental X-rays show the location of tumorous growths, X-rays can be responsible for even saving your life.
